Toyota K65-1 Transfer carriage
Hi
Does anyone own a Toyota K65-1 transfer carriage who might be able to help me? I’ve just purchased one but can’t get it to work.
The transfer carriage totally refuses to transfer stitches from the ribber to the main bed but does drop a few, so it’s definitely doing something if not the right thing!
I have a feeling it might be something to do with following Instruction 2 in the manual. It states ‘move ribber sideways by half pitch lever or racking handle’.
If I use the half pitch lever the ribber bed just moves half a point. If I follow the instructions and use the racking handle it tells me to turn the handle two full pitches to right and one to left. This gives a completely different placement of the ribber bed than when using the half pitch lever.
Also when using the racking handle, the diagram on the instructions shows the ribber bed moving from No. 5 to No. 6.5. Surely this a movement of 1.5 pitch and not one pitch? Or is one pitch signified by the numbers and dots? Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards

Knitting machine problems
I have been looking to see if I can but another knitting machine and ribber similar to mine, but cannot find anywhere that sells them. I am now retired and cannot afford to spend a fortune on a new machine, but would really like to return to knitting on a machine. I gained such a sense of achievement. Could anyone please advise where I can get help with this. I now live in the Thanet area of Kent.
Sorry to hear you are having problems with your machine. You do not say what exactly is wrong with it, does it just need the sponge bar replacing or is it worse than that?
If it is unusable and you want to replace it, I would suggest the best place to look is eBay. There are usually some Toyota machines advertised at reasonable prices as well as machines from Brother and Knitmaster.
Otherwise there are some dealers who advertise in MKM and although their machines would cost a bit more they will have been serviced and have a few months warranty.
Hoping you find what you are looking for,
Sue.

Yarn on cones
Starting back with machine knitting after a break for 20-odd years – seems more difficult to get yarn on cone that it used to (or is it me????) and the price has certainly shot up!
Any suggestions on suppliers?
Thanks alot
Christine
Welcome back to machine knitting.
There are several yarn suppliers that advertise in Machine Knitting Monthly.
I have bought several packs of yarn from Yeoman – they are £25 for 5 kilos. You can state what colours and plys you prefer but take ‘pot luck’ on the yarns you receive although they are all full cones. At this price each pack is really good value.
Another place to look is on eBay – there is always a huge range of machine knitting items for sale including lots of yarn.
Hope this gets you started
Regards
Sue.
www.bsk.co.uk They also have a shop on ebay.
You could also try typing Knitting yarn on cone into the search engines eg Google of Yahoo etc. You will then find several suppliers listed.
As there are no shops in Cornwall selling coned yarn for machine knitters I have always had to buy mine online.
Hope this helps. 🙂

Acrylic Yarn
I have returned to machine knitting after a break and knitted two jumpers with acrylic 4-ply yarn at tension 6 or 7 I think. After only one wearing, both jumpers badly bobbled and consequently I won’t wear them again as they look so awful. I know acrylics do this to a greater or lesser extent, but it seems such a waste of time and effort only for the finished product to end up in the bin. As acrylic yarn seem to be the mainstay of knitting, do others have this problem or is it just me – and can it be overcome?
Thanks, Polly Doodle
Sorry to hear your jumpers were not a success. If the the yarn you used was a fairly loose twist perhaps a slightly lower tension would give a fabric which is less likely to pill. Also always turn garments inside out before washing on a cool short wash (my machine has an half hour cycle which is ideal for knits).
There are many yarns to choose from for machine knitting and several companies advertise in MKM. Why not try a yarn which is pure wool or an acrylic/wool mix or one with a slightly higher twist? Yeoman Panama is a blend of cotton and acrylic which produces a lovely fabric. Three strands of 2/30s industrial acrylic produces a good 4-ply equivalent and it washes and wears very well. I hope this has given you a few pointers and I hope you get more success next time.
Kind regards Sue.
