Baby Shawl

Hi
I’m looking for a pattern for an easy baby’s shawl similar to the one on Page 17 of August 2010 issue of MKM. I’ve just started knitting again after 20 years and would be pleased to have some help.
Thanks, Mo Smyth

Hi Mo
The shawl in the photo looks as if it is knitted in Tuck Stitch which would be quite easy to knit.
If you go to http://needlesofsteel.org.uk/ you will find loads of free KM patterns. One of the shawls is in 4ply Tuck Stitch. It is knitted in one piece using two punchcards which you can download.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Sue.

Knit Guy in the USA

HI I live in the US and love my knitting machines. I am disabled and had a kidney transplant in 2009. I also had a lung collapse in Dec of this last year and have a lot of back problems. If it wasn’t for my knitting machines I think I would go bonkers sitting here at home day after day. I love the MKM magazine and look forward to it every month. The only thing I wish is that it had a web edition. The cost of the magazine is very reasonable but the cost of shipping it to the US makes it very expensive. It cost almost 120.00 American. If there was a web edition I could just download what I like. I would also like to see a web edition of back issues. I want a lot of the back issues but the cost makes them out of my budget. Does any one else feel this way? I have knitted quite a few of the patterns from the magazine and they always turn out beautiful.
Thanks, Ronny

I’m with you on the postage cost Ronnie but I do love this magazine and as you stated the patterns turn out beautifully. I’m thinking if I could save on the postage I could have enough to make a trip to a Machine Knitting LIVE! Expo.
Happy knitting!

I absolutely agree with you. I too would like to see the magazine in a digital format. I’m willing to pay a yearly subscription.

Hi
I’ve just received the March issue of MKM and fell in love with Norman Whitfield’s polo neck warmer. It’s knitted on a Passap machine and I have a Brother. I don’t know how to translate the instructions from a Passap to a Brother machine. Please help!

Hi knit grandma
I have a Passap machine and also knit on Japanese machines so here’s an adaptation of the pattern.
The needle arrangement will be the same as the pattern 2×2 industrial rib so cast on as you would normally for this rib but not too tightly as you need a stretchy edge ending with CAR.
Transfer single stitch at left to RB. Change tension and knit 60 rows.
On left bring up next 8 needles on MB and 9 on RB to WP. Knit to left. Hang side weight. Set carriages to slip on MB push up 9 needles at left to UWP and knit 1 row to the right.
Now bring 10 needles at left on RB to UWP and knit 1 row to the left. (This knits 2 circular rows on the new sts). Check that yarn does not loop at edges.
Set the carriages to knit. At right side bring up 9 needles on MB and 8 needles on RB to WP. Knit 1 row to right. Hang side weight. Set carriages to slip.
Bring 10 needles at right on MB to UWP. Knit 1 row to the left. Bring 9 needles at right on RB to UWP. Knit 1 row to the right. Make sure there are no loops at edges.
Set both carriages to knit increase stitch size knit 4 rows.
The final paragraph of the pattern can be knitted just as it is written and I hope this helps you to knit the pattern
Kind regards.

Bead Accessories

Hi

I saw a lady at Machine Knitting LIVE! at Croydon using an accessory to put beads on to the needles. Can someone please tell me where I can buy one?

Many thanks.

Gayle

Hi Gayle

A fine crochet hook small enough to thread the beads on works well.

You thread a bead onto the crochet hook unhook the stitch slide the bead over the stitch and hook it back on to the needle.

Hope you are successful!

Regards Sue.

Toyota K65-1 Transfer carriage

Hi
Does anyone own a Toyota K65-1 transfer carriage who might be able to help me? I’ve just purchased one but can’t get it to work.

The transfer carriage totally refuses to transfer stitches from the ribber to the main bed but does drop a few, so it’s definitely doing something if not the right thing!

I have a feeling it might be something to do with following Instruction 2 in the manual. It states ‘move ribber sideways by half pitch lever or racking handle’.

If I use the half pitch lever the ribber bed just moves half a point. If I follow the instructions and use the racking handle it tells me to turn the handle two full pitches to right and one to left. This gives a completely different placement of the ribber bed than when using the half pitch lever.

Also when using the racking handle, the diagram on the instructions shows the ribber bed moving from No. 5 to No. 6.5. Surely this a movement of 1.5 pitch and not one pitch? Or is one pitch signified by the numbers and dots? Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

Hi

For motifs of all sorts in every shape and size for all machines look no further than Jo Newton. She has masses of ideas and will even design a one-off as a special commission. Her website is www.jonewton.btinternet.co.uk or you can e-mail her at jo.newton@btinternet.com. All her patterns are available on disk for Brother FB100 or DesignaKnit or can be sent as e-mail attachments in PDF or DKnit formats.

CIRCULAR KNITTING

Hi

I have a Knitmaster 260 and I would like to make knitwear without a seam. Would I have to buy a new machine or can I buy a attachment for circular knitting.

Thanks
G

Hello G

You need a ribbing attachment in order to do circular knitting.

As you have a Knitmaster machine you need a Knitmaster or Silver ribber and the models that fit your machine are the SRP 20 SRP 50 and SRP 60.

There are several suppliers who advertise in MKM.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards Sue
