Jumper to copy

I have a jumper that I love wearing, but it’s now a bit baggy and threadbare to say the least. However, I love it to bits and would love it if someone could possibly copy it for me.
Thanks for any help.
Susan

Hi Susan
Can you give a few details about the jumper?
Is it Fair Isle cabled or some other pattern?
Would it need to be knitted on a chunky machine or is it a finer yarn?
Do you knit and would like someone to work out a pattern for you or do you need someone to knit it for you?
Sorry to bombard you with questions but more info would be helpful.
Regards
Sue.

Drop shoulder pattern

Hi
I’ve just returned to knitting after many years absence and no longer have any patterns. I’d like to start again with an easy drop shoulder crew neck design for children. I just wondered if anyone could point me towards instructions for a child’s 22 to 24 inch pattern using standard 4-ply yarn?

Hi
If you still need the drop shoulder pattern I could send you an e-mail attachment with a copy of my multi-size pattern. I would need your e-mail address to do this though.
I have only just started knitting again after not doing it for a number of years and used this pattern to knit my one year old granddaughter a jumper for her recent birthday.
Otherwise you can get patterns off eBay or from Bedford Sewing and Knitting who still do mail order. Hope this helps.

Lost Jumper Pattern

In my earlier machine knitting days, I had a lovely jumper pattern. It was portrayed in a deep wine colour and was a lady’s jumper with a lacy bodice and a yoke. I think it was a Jarol pattern, but I can’t be too sure about this. The mill was in Milnsbridge, Yorkshire and I used to go direct to the mill to buy my yarn, which was a silky texture. I also knitted samples of this jumper for them. I’ve searched eBay and other sites for patterns, but to no avail. Can anyone help me please?

Brother Garter Carriage

I need to know the correct number for a garter carriage compatible with my Brother 890. I’ve been offered one, but want to make sure that it will be compatible with my machine.
Thank you.
J Oakley

Hi J
There is a good website for all things Brother: www.scanthecat.com. As your machine has a built-in rail for the garter carriage and is one of the later machines it suggests that you can use any garter carriage on it.

Sue.

Hi Mary

I can help with a couple of your queries.

Are the two little ‘doo-dahs’ magnets for use with electronic machines?

Ebay UK often has Garter Carriages listed – some are private sales and some are from dealers and have been serviced. They all seem to command very high prices but it may be worth keeping a watch on what is available.

Kind regards
Sue.

Hi Mary

I tried sliding my garter carriage on from the left hand side and it stopped too. I had to lift the whole carriage slightly as the little foot-shaped piece of plastic about halfway back on the side of the carriage was getting stuck on the side of the needlebed. I think it is a problem with the rail.

Sue.

Flaw in stocking stitch pattern

Hi
When knitting plain stocking stitch, a flaw in the knitting appears. On the purl side, it looks like a slipped or missed stitch on the row it appears and is knitted up again on the next row. On the knit side, you can see it is a flaw in the knitting as it looks different from the rest of the knitted row. This is happening as I continue to knit stocking stitch, but in different areas of the work in progress and I am wondering how I can correct this. I can’t continue to improve on my machine knitting if I cannot correct this fault. Does any one have any tips or suggestions that I can do, or is it the fact that I have not set-up the carriage properly when knitting plain stocking stitch?
Thanks for any help.

Hi Lilian
This sounds as if it could be a tension problem have you tried loosening the setting on the main carriage tension dial?
Do you have sufficient weight evenly across the work?
Also check the condition of your needles and make sure the latches are opening and shutting freely. Change any that are damaged.
I hope you manage to get it sorted

Sensor cam for KH970

Hi Karen
A bit of exploring on the ‘Net’ has revealed that the part number of this item is 418729001.
I found a website for an American business which sells this part.
Their address is www.baystateoffice.com/g-carriage-sensor-cam-418729001 and the price is $9.41.
They do not say that they ship wordlwide but if you contact them it may be possible to get them to send you one.
Hope you are successful.

Sue.

Brother KH881

Hi

I’m unable to move the knit carriage across the needle bed without it jamming and there are loose needles.I bought my Brother KH881 knitting machine about 15 years ago, but I never managed to get the machine to knit and put it away. Recently I decided to set-up the knitting machine and to try to learn to machine knit. I’ve cleaned and oiled the knitting machine and I’ve replaced the needle retaining bar.

I’ve followed the instructions from the machine knitting manual in an attempt to plain knit. The knit carriage jams against the needles in B position, they’re very loose once extended beyond B position and in holding position don’t lie straight
on the needle bed.

Could this be the K carriage itself that’s faulty? Could it be the fact that the knitting machine has always been faulty?

Could you please advise further.

Many thanks from Lilian Guyers in Skelmersdale

Hi Lilian
It’s good that you have cleaned your machine and replaced the needle retaining bar. From what you have described I think you may have put the bar back in under the needles instead of over them.
Take the bar out again and then replace it foam side down whilst using the straight edge of the 1×1 needle selector to hold the needles down against the numbered strip.
Hopefully this will solve your problem.
Kind regards
Sue.

Baby Shawl

Hi
I’m looking for a pattern for an easy baby’s shawl similar to the one on Page 17 of August 2010 issue of MKM. I’ve just started knitting again after 20 years and would be pleased to have some help.
Thanks, Mo Smyth

Hi Mo
The shawl in the photo looks as if it is knitted in Tuck Stitch which would be quite easy to knit.
If you go to http://needlesofsteel.org.uk/ you will find loads of free KM patterns. One of the shawls is in 4ply Tuck Stitch. It is knitted in one piece using two punchcards which you can download.
Hope this helps.

Sue.

There’s a baby’s shawl in the new September issue of MKM – might be just what you are looking for.

Machine Needles

PS – Thanks for the response to my previous question a couple of months ago. I have now purchased a suitable ribber and changed the sponge bar using draught excluder strip and everything seems to be working OK.

Hi
No they don’t but you can use Knitmaster needles on a Toyota 901 for stocking stitch. The only problem is that it plays up on tuck or slip stitch because the obsolete Toyota needles have a particular flat shape on the back end which I think has some bearing on the action of tuck and so on. I’m not sure and it might just be my old machine.
